Happy for somewhat warmer weather for my nature observations….

Two silver maples face each other in the yard….

Photo below shows the fall leaves and the shape of the leaves. They grow fast and tend to have shallow roots….

The silver maples are one of the earliest trees to flower in western New York. There are male and female trees which can be determined by the flowers…

My tree has male flowers which have long stamens…

But I can’t look at this tree in isolation as it is part of a community … a web of interwoven life that has played out for millions of years….

The tree provides shade for our yard….

And a place for the bird feeders to hang so that a gray squirrel can pilfer a peanut

A place for birds to look for insects when it gets warmer..

  2. Happy spring, Michelle! I miss the excitement of spring here in Hawaii. That was such a time of jubilation when we lived in Illinois. I’m wishing you lots and lots of warmer days ahead.
