Pond reflection….the leaves are changing color…..

fall pond
its rich spiced residues: vines, leaves,
the uneaten fruits crumbling damply
in the shadows, unmattering back
from the particular island
of this summer, this NOW, that now is nowhere
except underfoot, moldering
in that black subterranean castle
of unobservable mysteries – roots and sealed seeds
and the wanderings of water. This
I try to remember when time’s measure
painfully chafes, for instance when autumn
flares out at the last, boisterous and like us longing
to stay – how everything lives, shifting
from one bright vision to another, forever
in these momentary pastures.

Have a wonderful week and stay safe…

I love Mary Oliver’s poetry! She had the most unique way of sharing her views of nature and of life itself
Gorgeous pic! Lone duck disturbing the stillness. Lovely poem too.
Like the song of Mary Oliver:) Have a great nature week. The reflection is so painterly! Jesh
I really LOVE that photo of the pond, Michelle. It goes so well with the poem.
Ducks swimming in ponds never fail to get my hand reaching out for my camera. Something quite placid and serene about the way they float ever so smoothly on the pond surface…
PS: Thank you for hosting, Michelle!
Fall is gorgeous! And so is my spring 🙂
Mary oliver could make such beautiful word pictures!
Lovely!
