Join Nature Notes from Mondays at 11:00 pm EST  to Friday at 11:00 pm EST.

More information can be found at the top of the blog on a separate page, but it really is easy. What are you or have you seen and enjoyed in nature? It can be from your own backyard, the local park, out on a hike, or anywhere. What plants and animals catch your interest? Do you garden? Have you read a good book on nature?

Write a blog post with a photo, a story, a poem, anything goes because I love to see what Mother Nature is up to in your area. Please submit one blog post per week and link it back to Nature Notes in some way.

Below is last week’s Nature Notes’ blogger thumbnail photos in a collage. If your photos are protected and/or you don’t want me to use them, please let me know. Also listed are all the links to last week’s Nature Notes blog posts if you missed any.

The summer continues in some ways the same from Mother Nature, but very different in so many other ways. I live in western New York state and here the officials are very cautious and had a re-opening plan in steps based on COVID cases and we are still required to wear masks. There is no national plan sadly and states are doing their own thing and it is getting so much worse again.

My sister and I were talking and we both miss human contact. Hugs from family and friends. She and I are both home since March and it is great to have an online family but nothing takes the place the place of a hug. I don’t know where we are headed in the fall. I am terrified at the thought of my 5-year old grandson going to school especially as my 15-month old granddaughter has special medical needs. I don’t know.

I go out into the yard and sit and listen and breathe and sometimes write what I feel….Please be careful to stay healthy…

Dusk…..
by Michelle

The dark clouds move in.. shades of gray

Sitting… listening… the tightness in my chest has been smoldering

Begging to be released….

The thunder brings a torrent of rain

Tears fall from my eyes joining the raindrops

My heart pounds as if trying to join with the claps of thunder

But slowly the storm moved off…

The clouds part showing hues of pink and orange

The sun returns…

The duality of Mother Nature reflects my own emotions

The sun dries my tears and I feel almost buoyant…

For now…

(disclaimer)-I don’t write poetry, I don’t know how, I don’t know the rules…this is a stream of thought that begged to be written

  1. I appreciate your non-poem (prose poem? )….lets just say ‘your thoughts.’ …the fact that I am awake at 2 in the morning may tell you that I am thinking and worrying along those same lines . I go along pretty well during the day but sometimes at night I can’t stop thinking and sleep eludes me. Thanks for sharing and for hosting.

  2. Hi Michelle. I think your brain knew what to write. It needed to come out. It is beautiful.
I have not been locked up like many others. I have a car and can pretty much live “as usual”. I visit my daughter on days where it is nice to be on a walk or sitting in the garden. I have one concern just now and that is my granddaughter has been studying in Queensland and are finished. She is about to come home in two wees time. I just hope she will not be stuck anywhere on the trip.
    Take care, stay safe.

  3. Michelle, I am also worried about my grandchildren going back to school! What a strange world this is now, with so much uncertainty. We have been staying home most of the time but I see so many neighbors being careless and acting as if life is still normal when we know we should still be careful and social distance. All we can do is minimize our own risks as much as possible,

  4. It’s really hard and it’s okay to be scared and feel those emotions. It’s all out of our control if the govt doesn’t really crack down and that’s the worst part. We have one State here that has got out of control (not really the govt’s fault, just some people being stupid and now it’s escalated so quickly). My own state is on the knife edge – teetering to escalate….at the moment we’re okay but we aren’t lockdown so it keeps popping up in unknown places…it’s hard to ‘carry on’ and not get scared. I’m currently trying to drive people to their jobs and school and keep them off transport…hang in there. Each month brings great change. Lovely pink clouds and a nice poem nonetheless!

  5. Isn’t it too early to open schools especially for such young children. Here in India the schools are still shut and no decision has been taken when to reopen them.

We all miss meeting folks without a worry ……… And the human touch and it will be quite sometime when we can hug without a thought.

  6. Hello, Michelle. Your poem (yes, it is a poem) is beautiful and melancholy and it reflects the uncertain times that we live in. It is vital that we stay informed and take adequate precautions to stay safe. Here in Melbourne we are in lockdown again, after a second and deadlier wave of COVID infection passes through our city.
I too write in blogs to release tension, but also to try and stay in contact with others, giving as much support as I can. You may be interested to read these posts:

  7. Your free verse poetry is beautiful…you are a poet and expressed your feelings succinctly with the metaphor of nature. It is healing to write, keep doing it. Love and hugs- Lin
Faith in better days ahead not fear will get us through…
