The weather went from cool and rainy to really hot, humid and rainy giving no time to adjust to the change in temperature.
We had a lot of get done this week. An arborist or tree specialist came and trimmed and pruned our trees and some of the bushes. The viburnum have been chewed on by a non-native species beetle that is killing these shrubs. That along with the emerald ash borer has destroyed millions and millions of trees. We decided 10 years ago to save the two white ash trees in our yard by having injection treatments every 3 years and so far they are doing well. But everywhere you look there are dead trees in the tree line.

Why Hire an Arborist?
Arborists specialize in the care of individual trees. They are knowledgeable about the needs of trees, and are trained and equipped to provide proper care. Hiring an arborist is a decision that should not be taken lightly. Proper tree care is an investment that can lead to substantial returns. Well cared-for trees are attractive and can add considerable value to your property. Poorly maintained trees can be a significant liability. Pruning or removing trees, especially large trees, can be dangerous work. Tree work should be done only by those trained and equipped to work safely in trees.

Great book and video about “trees talking to other trees”

The Hidden Life of Trees
*****
And a WONDERFUL T.E.D. Talk….It is AMAZING
A forest is much more than what you see,” says ecologist Suzanne Simard. Her 30 years of research in Canadian forests have led to an astounding discovery — trees talk, often and over vast distances. Learn more about the harmonious yet complicated social lives of trees and prepare to see the natural world with new eyes.
Nature walks are wonderful. But you don’t have to travel to special location to enjoy Mother Nature. There is so much to see in your own neighborhood or even in your own back or front yard. Get a guide-book of the wildlife in your area and learn the calls of birds and frogs and toads. So many times I hear a bird that lets me know what I am looking for in the trees.

I liked the videos.
Absolutely agree. One of my favorite parts of the Master Gardener’s Core course was learning about trees, proper care and management. I realized before that, that I knew so little about them.
I read this great book last year – a must-have! 🙂
Oh my gosh…I was so glad we had an arborist manage our trees a few years ago. He and his team were amazing. People just don’t understand the concept of forest management…:)jp
oh I love this post on trees….I have always talked to trees since I was a little child, it is so amazing to know that the trees can talk to each other too.
What a wonderful post on an important topic, Michelle. As you very well point out, a professional with special knowledge and experience, is best to look after precious trees in one’s care.
PS: Thank you for hosting!
Nature is always full of wonder. Thanks for the great post!
