Join Nature Notes Tuesday at 12:00 am EST to Friday at 11:00 pm EST. More information can be found at the top of the blog on a separate page, but it really is easy. What are you or have you seen and enjoyed in nature? It can be from your own backyard, the local park, out on a hike or anywhere. What plants and animals catch your interest? Do you garden? Have you read a good book on nature?
Write a blog post with a photo, a story, a poem, anything goes because I love to see what Mother Nature is up to in your area. Please submit one blog post per week and link back to nature notes in some way.

It has been bitterly cold, too cold to take the camera out. So I needed something to remind me of warmer times…
Cute mallard mom and ducklings…. Can you count them?

Nature walks are wonderful. But you don’t have to travel to special location to enjoy Mother Nature. There is so much to see in your own neighborhood or even in your own back or front yard. Get a guide-book of the wildlife in your area and learn the calls of birds and frogs and toads. So many times I hear a bird that lets me know what I am looking for in the trees.
“Can you Count the ducklings” reminded me of a puzzle in an old kid’s magazine. (I bet there isn’t even such a thing any more). They are so cute all round a fuzzy! I wish I could send you some warmth. (Although we’ve had some cool (for here) days, especially after the sun goes down. Good sleeping weather.
I had fun watching a big buck dig up leaves under the snow in my garden to eat yesterday. I don;t rake the leaves any longer as the deer eat them all winter.
Is five the right answer? I was looking through some spring/summer pictures the other day and was just struck by how different the light is when the sun is higher in the sky than it is at this time of year. Michelle – hope you are well!!!!
What a magnificent click displaying protective motherhood and babies. Michelle, it is difficult to count correctly since the babies are huddled close to each other. My guess is -five.
Lovely duck and ducklings, Michelle. I have birds for today’s post also!
I do hope it spring arrives for you soon! The ducklings are sooo cute and a great reminder of warmer times!
I thought you may like to see the first flight of a fledgling blackbird in our garden, Michelle. 🙂
I agree — it is just darn too cold. And this weekend a big winter storm supposed to be coming. Too bad I can’t join the Nature’s Note. I hope to soon take some pictures and join.
I tried counting but seems like some ducklings are hiding among others. What’s the square thingy on the back of the mother goose?
And a very heartiest congratulations to you and your daughter for things happening in April :-).
Hugs and stay warm Michelle.
